Network Usage Log Viewing System
The Sessionwall Log View system allows
users to monitor network usage details over an extended period of time by targeting a
specific database and browsing and viewing the archived information. Users can also
consolidate session information from multiple Sessionwall stations in a relational
database.
Users create rules in Sessionwall which log session data in an archive,
allowing retrieval of the usage data at a later stage.
The Log View System consists of three main components:
 | A Sessionwall system component,
the Sessionwall Data Client, which collects the network usage data and
transfers it to the archive. |
|
 | The Sessionwall Data Server component which controls
the archived data on the same or different computer. |
|
 | The Sessionwall Log Database
browser which can reside on any NT system and provides the user with an
interface for viewing the archived logs. |
|

After installing the software and defining the
archive location, the user defines a rule in Sessionwall that logs the session data in an
archive for later retrieval.
RptView (Report Viewer)
The RptView application enables viewing of
reports from a Windows machine (Windows NT, Windows 95 or Windows 98) where Sessionwall
software is not installed. The Report Viewer is ideal for managers who don't want to use
Sessionwall, but who do want to view and explore the data Sessionwall collects in order
to:
 | understand the real status of their network |
 | monitor the behavior and the habits of the network
users |
 | detect security problems and risks |
 | search for abnormalities. |
RptView is an easy to install application that
requires no special configuration and can be used immediately after installation. Typical
use of the RptView is as follows:
 | A network usage report, or a set of reports, is
generated by Sessionwall Report Scheduler. The reports can be selective so that each
department manager will get a report about his department. |
|
 | The generated reports are automatically sent via Email
or copied to a file server. |
|
 | Users of RptView can view the network usage reports,
use the drill-down feature to view detailed information about specific users or events and
print the reports or parts of the reports. |

WebServer32
WebServer32 allows remote viewing of reports
using a Web browser. The WebServer32 software is installed as a service, ensuring access
by remote machines whenever the Web server is started. In Sessionwall, the user defines
reports and sends these reports to the Web server in HTML format. Remote users can then
access the server and view the network usage reports.
External Reporting Tools
Sessionwall now includes the option to
export log files for creating reports in external reporting tools, such as WebTrends and
Telemate. In Sessionwall, the user defines the number of records per file and the
frequency at which the log file will be updated. In Telemate or WebTrends, reports can be
generated manually from the log files collected, or created automatically using the
scheduling option which generates reports at specific times.
Sessionwall has been
