WebMail is available in a
specially priced SSL license, designed to simplify and the installation and management of
secure email systems at the corporate level. With WebMail, companies need only
browser-equipped PCs for users to send and receive secure email. By eliminating the need
for an email client, this server-based application eliminates the administrative overhead
of installing and maintaining an email client at each workstation.
WebMail
is suitable for
all types of installations and provides access to Internet standard IMAP4 and POP3
servers, in addition to LAN-based systems including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus
Notes, cc:Mail,
Microsoft Mail, and Connect2/MHS.
The latest version of WebMail
uses Secure Sockets
Layer technology (SSL) that enables Web browsers to make secure email connections to the
WebMail server for sending and receiving electronic mail over the Internet. In effect,
this creates a virtual private network. This new feature allows a wider array of companies
and organizations to use the Internet to safely send and receive sensitive corporate email
to a geographically dispersed user population.
WebMail and SSL
"Security is the main reason why most companies
hesitate to standardize on Internet based messaging solutions. With prying eyes more
prevalent than ever on the Internet, SSL support for WebMail
provides exceptional security
at an affordable price." states Brett Warthen, head of the Captaris'
Infinite Group.
"Infinite pioneered the web-based email market in 1995 with the
introduction of WebMail. While our competitors have focused on the hype surrounding free
email services, we believe the true potential for web-based email solutions is with the
corporate and institutional markets. The introduction of SSL legitimizes
WebMail
at the
corporate level."
