SAN MATEO, Calif.
- RSA Data Security, Inc. today
announced that Captaris, a provider of enterprise messaging
solutions through their Infinite Email Server line, has
introduced an add-on module based on RSA security technology for its two electronic mail
server products, WebMail and InterChange. The module, which
implements Secure Sockets Layer
(SSL) technology, allows Infinite customers to encrypt information sent over the
Internet, keeping unauthorized users from reading email messages as they travel from point
to point. Engineers at Captaris used RSA's BSAFE encryption engine to
build security into its products.
"By adopting RSA technology, we are providing
our customers with the secure email technology they require to use the Internet to extend
their internal networks," said Brett Warthen, of the Infinite Group. "In
addition, with an RSA security foundation firmly in place, Infinite can move into new
markets, focusing on providing secure email and Internet solutions for geographically
dispersed workers."
WebMail is Infinite's email server software product that enables users of many
popular LAN-based or Internet standards-based email systems to access their company email
from anywhere via the World Wide Web. Infinite InterChange is Infinite's 32-bit email
server and gateway software that gives users access to their office-based email systems
via IMAP4,
POP3 and
HDML using smart cellular phones and the Web. With either server
product in place, users can access Lotus Notes, cc:Mail, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Mail, DaVinci
eMAIL, ExpressIT! 2000 and other email systems.
Infinite's RSA-based module allows Web browsers and
other SSL-enabled mail clients to make secure email connections to a WebMail or Infinite
InterChange server for sending and receiving electronic mail over the Internet. This helps
to create a virtual private email network using the Internet, allowing a wider array of
companies and organizations to use the Internet to safely send sensitive corporate email
to a remote population.
"RSA's interoperability enables Infinite to
offer its customers a secure email solution that can be used in conjunction with other
software products without modification and with sophisticated security," said Scott
Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA and Security Dynamics. "This is
exciting news for Infinite customers that want to lessen their use of dial-up phone lines,
which are expensive, and increase their use of the Internet for secure
communications."
RSA's BSAFE software is one of the world's
best-selling cryptography engines and provides software developers with multiple
algorithms and modules for adding encryption and authentication features to applications.
BSAFE includes modules for popular security encryption techniques, such as RSA, DES, RC2,
RC4, and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), and also supports digital signatures and
certificates.
