Exchange Gateway

The Infinite InterChange Exchange gateway lets Microsoft Exchange users exchange email with the Internet. To send and receive Internet email through the Exchange Gateway, you must complete the following steps:

	Define the Exchange gateway to the Exchange Server — if you install Interchange on the Exchange Server, Interchange will automatically define the gateway.
	Configure Internet Addressing — configure the domain name and Internet address format for your Exchange users. The gateway and the Exchange Server must use the same domain name.
	Establish a Windows NT User Account — create a Windows NT account with service administrator rights for the InterChange computer
	Configure the Exchange Gateway — configure the Exchange gateway in  InterChange
	Test your Exchange Gateway Configuration — test your ability to send Internet messages through the Exchange gateway

Authorized Users

The Exchange gateway maintains a list of authorized users. By default, Infinite InterChange authorizes users automatically when they send a message to the Exchange gateway. However, you may restrict which users can send messages through the Exchange gateway.

WINMAIL.DAT Files

Microsoft Exchange allows you to send formatted text, embedded objects, and embedded messages within the text of e-mail messages. The information for these special features resides in a file called WINMAIL.DAT. Microsoft Exchange transmits this file with each outbound message. The Exchange gateway can be configured to always send this file or only when sending to specific domains.

Virus Scan

The Exchange gateway lets you use a command-line operated virus scanner, such as McAfee’s VirusScan, to scan inbound and outbound attachments for viruses.
